The Happy Soul Industry
Steffan Postaer’s new novel, The Happy Soul Industry, is out today. The story focuses on (take a guess) the CEO of an LA advertising agency who takes on God as a client. When we kick back by the pool with a little summer reading, we prefer to NOT be reminded of our industry, but that’s just us. We know some of the ad geeks in the room can’t get enough.
When we write our first novel, we promise it won’t be set in the world of advertising. It’ll be set in a PR firm. Boo-yah! Here’s a video of Mr. Postaer talking about the story. We’re hoping he doesn’t voice the audio book.

Built Green Work From Thomas Tabor & Drazen
The king of acronyms, Rick Rosenberg ECD at TTD, was kind enough to share their work for Built Green Homes and a little insight into the campaign.
Not many companies can compare themselves to Mother Nature and get away with it.
This campaign for Built Green Homes is running on outdoor boards, bus shelters and bus sides during the convention. It’s particularly appropriate since the convention is doing its best to be green.

John McCain: Celeb
All political views aside, can you believe how bad this advertising is? Comparing Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton as a celebrity? What over the hill bastard came up with this turd? Fire him.
Two Free Biz Books
We haven’t read either one yet, but we plan to.

Image of the Week: Gun Magnet
A magnet carries confiscated guns, to be thrown into a melting pot and destroyed, at an iron and steel plant in Montevideo, Uruguay, on July 24, 2008. According to government statistics, there is one gun in circulation for every three Uruguayan citizens.

The Denver 50: 2008 Teaser
Here’s another teaser for the teaser for the teaser for the teaser that will eventually become a movie called “Death to the 50” created by Citizen Pictures for the 2008 Denver 50 call-for-entries. While this is pretty damn awesome, we do hope the entire film is completed and released to the public before actual entries are due on the 22nd of August. Time for some overtime, fellas.

Liquid Furniture
This new set of furniture from designer Lee J. Rowland is worth a look. Lee created an interesting line of pieces that imitate rippling mercury. Try to resist the urge to jump in.

Monstrous Marketing?
Early reports said this was a real monster that washed onshore in Montauk, Long Island near a government testing facility. Fantastic. Now it seems the story is unraveling with dozens of other theories, including it being a marketing campaign by the Cartoon Network for Cryptids.

Bitch Slap, The Movie
We saw these pretty hot posters over on Advertising is Good For You (where you can see a few others if you like). We decided to follow the link for the movie to see just what was shaking, since we were intrigued to know all about anything called Bitch Slap. Wow, this Xmas is going to be a fantastic one for movie fans, people.
Here’s the premise. “Bitch Slap” is a modern throwback to the “B” Movie/Exploitation films of the 1950s – 70s, mixing hot girls, fast cars, big guns, nasty tongues, outrageous action and jaw-dropping eye candy with a message… don’t be naughty! “Cult classic” and “Cinematic Masterpiece” barely encompass this cat-fighting, girl-banging, pile-driving, go-go dancing, bronco-busting, bumping & grinding, philosophy-touting, breast-augmenting, femme-tastic f%@#-fest-fight-fantasy of epic proportions. “Bitch Slap” – You know you want it.
Yes we do. Yes we do. The best/worst movie to hit theaters this holiday season. Or any other.
The Denver 50: 2008 Rules & Specifications
So, the rules and regs for the New Denver Ad Club’s annual show have appeared on their site with little build-up and luster. Apparently, the club is still waiting on Citizen Pictures to finish up the film to get people riled up to enter work. Speaking of, how many of you out there are planning to send some stuff in this year (August 22 deadline)?

NDAC & CP+B Present: Jason Fried
We’ve heard Jason Fried of 37signals speak before and, believe us, you will not leave disappointed and uninspired. This is one to hit on Thursday night. RSVP here.
You’re invited to not one, but two full Happy Hours and an informal lecture and discussion about “Getting Real,” featuring Jason Fried, Co-founder and President of 37signals. Jason will be talking about some of the things he’s learned about collaboration, entrepreneurship, hiring people, stumbling into things, scratching your own itch and figuring things out along the way. There will be cocktails and hors d’oeuvres so essentially, you’ve got an hour to enjoy each. Use your time wisely.
Jason Fried is the co-founder and President of 37signals, a privately-held Chicago-based company committed to building the best web-based tools possible with the least number of features necessary. 37signals’ unconventional approach to business brings a fresh new perspective on how to be an entrepreneur and build a successful business today. 37signals’ products include Basecamp, Highrise, Backpack, Campfire, Ta-da List, and Writeboard. 37signals also developed and open-sourced the Ruby on Rails programming framework. 37signals’ products do less than the competition – intentionally.
Who Are You?
Brief Egotist survey here. What capacity do you work in (ie. illustrator, writer, art director, developer, media, account side, client side, some other side)? Also, what city are you in? Trying to get a pulse of who’s reading this filth.

What Would You Ask Jason Fried?
Our friends at the New Denver Ad Club and Crispin Porter + Bogusky have kindly gotten Thursday night’s speaker, Jason Fried from 37signals, to agree to do an interview with us. What would you like to know from him? Check this out for some fodder. We have exactly the next few hours to get it all prepped.
The Mojave Experiment: More CP+B Microsoft Work?
Well, lookie here what our friend Grinder spotted on Geekologie. No mention of Crispin Porter + Bogusky in their post, but here’s what they’re saying about the video.
This is a hidden-camera video released by Microsoft in which they had Vista naysayers that had no previous hands-on experience with the operating system take their latest OS, Windows Mojave, for a test drive. But it was really Vista in disguise!
Interesting and very subtle release of this campaign being spurred by CP+B. We think. Here’s the accompanying site if you want to dig deeper. Report back if you find anything interesting.
Not for a Billion Dollars
How much would they have to pay you to do this for real? Follow the campaign here where the concept gets played out very quickly and completely falls to pieces.
